Marta Hamity, Ph.D.

Scientific Review Officer, Office of Scientific Review

Marta Hamity, Ph.D., joined the Office of Scientific Review at the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) in May 2022 as a scientific review officer. In this capacity, she coordinates the scientific review of applications submitted to NCCIH in response to various funding opportunities.

Dr. Hamity received her Ph.D. in psychology and neuroscience from The Universidad Nacional de Córdoba, where she studied a subpopulation of sensory neurons as potential muscle nociceptors. Her postdoctoral work at the University of Iowa focused on the role of substance P in the rostral ventromedial medulla, a central relay nucleus for the bulbospinal pathway of nociception, in the development and maintenance of persistent pain after peripheral inflammatory injury. She also served as a research assistant professor of anesthesia at the same institution, where she was the principal investigator of a research program investigating the mechanisms that mediate painful neuropathies.
