February Council Meeting To Feature Symposium on Oversight of Clinical Trials
January 17, 2020
The National Advisory Council for Complementary and Integrative Health (NACCIH) will meet on Friday, February 7 on the National Institutes of Health (NIH) campus in Bethesda, Maryland. We welcome clinicians, researchers, and members of the public to attend the Open Session, which is from 10 a.m. to 3:20 p.m. ET. The session will include updates, including from NCCIH Director Helene M. Langevin, M.D., on the Center’s activities, policies, and funding priorities.
The NACCIH meets three times per year and is charged with advising, consulting with, and making recommendations to the Center director on matters relating to the Center’s research activities and functions. In closed sessions, members provide secondary review of grant applications with respect to NCCIH research priorities and program balance.
As part of the Open Session, four research concepts will be presented for Council’s consideration:
- “Integrating Basic Behavioral and Social Sciences Training for Mid-Career Investigators,” by Lanay Mudd, Ph.D. and Merav Sabri, Ph.D., program directors, DER, NCCIH; and William (Bill) Ellwood, Ph.D., OppNet coordinator and health scientist administrator, Office of Behavioral and Social Sciences Research, NIH
- A concept for support under NIH’s Helping to End Addiction Long-termSM (HEAL) Initiative, “Imaging of Myofascial Tissues: Potential Impact for Musculoskeletal Pain Research,” by Dr. Sabri and Wen Chen, M.M.Sc., Ph.D., Chief of the Basic and Mechanistic Research Branch, DER, NCCIH
- A concept for support under the NIH Blueprint for Neuroscience Research Initiative, “Functional Neural Circuits of Interoception,” by Dr. Chen
- “Research Networks for Force-Based Manipulations,” by Dr. Sabri.
At 1:00 p.m., we will hold a mini-symposium on “Clinical Trials and Oversight.” Clinical researchers may be interested to hear an update on NIH policy from Michael Lauer, M.D., Deputy Director for Extramural Research, NIH, and a talk on “NCCIH Implementation of Clinical Trials Oversight,” by Emmeline Edwards, Ph.D., Director of NCCIH’s Division of Extramural Research (DER), and Catherine Meyers, M.D., Director of the Center’s Office of Clinical and Regulatory Affairs.
We welcome you to attend the Open Session in Rooms E1/E2 in Building 45 on the NIH campus or via NIH Videocast. There is an opportunity for public comment at the end of the meeting. The online session will be closed captioned and archived.
