Interview With NCCIH Scientific Review Officer Patrick Still, Ph.D.

The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) Research Blog team sat down with Patrick Still, Ph.D., to talk about his role as a scientific review officer (SRO) at NCCIH and how this position supports the mission of the National Institutes of Health.

As an SRO, Dr. Still coordinates the scientific review of applications submitted to NCCIH in response to its various funding opportunity announcements.

Dr. Still received his Ph.D. in medicinal chemistry and pharmacognosy from The Ohio State University, where he studied nicotinic receptor antagonistic effects of trisubstituted piperidines isolated from Vietnamese tropical plants. During his postdoctoral work at University of California, Santa Cruz (2013–2015), he explored nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) methods in the structural elucidation of compounds of marine origin. Additionally, he served as a faculty member at California State University, Dominguez Hills for 5 years, where he taught organic chemistry to undergraduate students.
